Installing Oracle Odbc Drivers

Oracle's Instant Client ODBC software is a standalone package that offers the full functionality of the Oracle ODBC driver (except the Oracle service for Microsoft Transaction Server) with a simple install. The ODBC driver has Oracle's standard client-server version interoperability, see Support Doc ID 207303.1. For example Instant Client ODBC. Install the Oracle ODBC Driver Download the Oracle 12.2 Instant Client Basic and ODBC packages from Instant Client Downloads for macOS (Intel x86). To reduce the installation size, the Basic Light package be used instead of Basic, if its character sets and languages are sufficient.

Installing

Had Oracle ODBC drivers on it, you can skip to Installing Oracle 10g ‐ XP/ Vista on page 21 or Installing Oracle 10g ‐ Windows 7 on page 23. Backing Up To back up your current Oracle configuration: 1 Restart your computer. 2 Log on to the PC. Installing ODBC Drivers for IBM AIX If you intend to use ODBC, then install the most recent ODBC Driver Manager for IBM AIX on POWER Systems (64-Bit). Download and install the ODBC Driver Manager from the following website. Download the desired package from OTN for your operating system and follow the installation instructions on the download page. For example, unzip the package to C:instantclient193 on Windows, unzip to /opt/oracle/instantclient193 on Linux or other platforms, or use yum to install the RPM packages on Linux.

If you have downloaded the zipped DLL package:

  1. Unzip the installation files.

  2. Run the included batch file to perform an installation to the default locations.

  3. Alternatively, install the individual files required for Connector/ODBC operation manually.

The following instructions only work for 32-bit Windows systems. If you have a 64-bit Windows system, use the MSI installer, which installs both the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers to the correct locations.

To install using the batch file:

  1. Unzip the Connector/ODBC zipped DLL package.

  2. Open a command prompt.

  3. Change to the directory created when you unzipped the Connector/ODBC zipped DLL package.

  4. Run Install.bat:

This copies the necessary files into the default location, and then registers the Connector/ODBC driver with the Windows ODBC manager.

Changing or adding a new DSN (data source name) may be accomplished using either the GUI, or from the command-line using myodbc-installer.exe.

Although Oracle recommends installing these files in the standard location, you can also copy the files by hand to an alternative location - for example, to run or test different versions of the Connector/ODBC driver on the same machine. To copy the files to a location of your choice, use the following steps:

  1. Unzip the Connector/ODBC zipped DLL package.

  2. Open a command prompt.

  3. Change to the directory created when you unzipped the Connector/ODBC zipped DLL package.

  4. Copy the library files to a suitable directory. The default location is the default Windows system directory WindowsSystem32:

    For Connector/ODBC 8.x:

    For Connector/ODBC 5.x:

  5. Copy the Connector/ODBC tools. These must be placed in a directory that is in the system %PATH%. The default is to install these into the Windows system directory WindowsSystem32:

  6. Optionally, copy the help files. For these files to be accessible through the help system, they must be installed in the Windows system directory:

  7. Finally, register the Connector/ODBC driver with the ODBC manager:

    For Connector/ODBC 8.x:

    For Connector/ODBC 5.3:

If you installed these files into a non-default location, change the references to the DLL files and command location in the above statement
