THIS BOOK is ALL about learning to write the Devanagari alphasyllabary script (Sanskrit is technically not an alphabet). This book uses the same method myself and millions of American school children use (d) to learn to write their English A-B-Cs. Someone else posted a photo of the lessons. See what I mean? Let us get introduced to the Conventional Devanagari symbols. The letters are arranged in a neat, systematic format, separating Vowels svara (ra ‘reverberation’ of the sva ‘self’) from Consonants.
English[edit]
Due to low awareness of Devanagari keyboard layouts, many Indian users type Hindi in the Roman script. Before Devanagari was added to Unicode, many workarounds were used to display Devanagari on the Internet, and many sites and services have continued using them despite widespread availability of Unicode fonts supporting Devanagari. Devanagari is not actually an alphabet, but a so-called alphasyllabary. An alphasyllabary is a writing system which is primarily based on consonants, and in which vowel symbols are requisite yet secondary. As such, the fundamental genius of Devanagari is that every letter represents a consonant which is followed by an inherent schwa vowel, अ.
